Junkfood, junkfood, and more junkfood

>> Wednesday, October 1

I have been loading up on junkfood lately. Blame it on the cold wet weather or something.. teehee... I could not bring myself to indulge on chocolates because of these melamine scare from China. So I turned to my second love instead. Can you turn your back from this..?

or this??

Well maybe you can, but I certainly cant. So I indulged and ordered two, so sue me! :) I'm starting my Octoberfest with junkfood. Ok so I'm blabbing.. I'll stop now, and go grab another slice of pizza... YUM! What a way to start October..

food for the brain

>> Wednesday, September 17

"One cannot think well, love well or sleep well if one has not dined well."
- Virginia Woolfe

I'm so swamped with work this week. I have to write eight 500 word articles to be passed this Friday on just about everything - from divorce lawyers to hair extensions to medical secretary training - and that's about half of what I have to do for this week. That might be normal to a lot of people out there, especially experienced writers, but me? shesh! It's a brain-wrenching nose-bleeding task for me. But I gotta do what I gotta do, it's part of work.

Oh well at least this gives me an excuse to stock up on chocolates - its food for the brain you know. :) If you're in the same situation that I am right now.. stock up on these foodies to keep your brains up and running healthy...

Fish: The original “brain food” contains lots of omega-3 fatty acids and fish oils, especially cold water fish like salmon and cod. Omega-3s are beneficial in a number of ways, including promoting neuronal growth, improved cholesterol, and fortification of myelin sheaths which facilitate communication between neurons.

Vegetables: This is a great source of antioxidants, which may reduce the risk of developing cognitive impairment by diminishing oxidative stress. Spinach, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, and cauliflower are among the top candidates.

Fruits: Like vegetables, fruits are rich in antioxidants. However, fruit tastes better. Some of your healthiest options are blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, strawberries, raspberries, plums, avocados, oranges, red grapes, red bell peppers, cherries and kiwis.

Water: Be sure to get enough to keep your body and brain hydrated. Dehydration can cause a headache now, and can lead to long-term neuronal damage sustained from elevated stress hormones.

Chocolate: Last (my favorite) is cocoa beans, which contain the flavanol epicatechin and antioxidants. Dark chocolate is best (that's why I bought two bars yesterday), and avoid candy bars with lots of added sugars. Also, recent research suggests that chocolate can improve memory. (yay for all the chocolate lovers out there!)

Bicol Express

>> Thursday, August 14

Ok so I made my very first bicol express yesterday. It wasn't really that spicy because I only put in a few chili peppers just in case, but anyway it was still delish. hehehe

When I cook, I'm not really particular in measurement. I'm too lazy to do that. ehheh So I do measuring by just looking (or plainly taking a wild estimate). If your interested to know how to cook this, I'm sharing this recipe (actually I found this online and made a few changes)...

Ingredients:

Pork (cut in 1/2 inch slices)
Cooking oil/Vegetable oil
Chopped onion
Chopped garlic
Freshly chopped ginger
Chopped chili peppers (depends on you how spicy you want in to be)
Fresh green peppers (sliced diagonally)
Red peppers (sliced diagonally)
Coconut cream
Salt (to taste)

Cooking Instructions:
1. Heat cooking oil in a skillet. Then add the pork slices and cover until lightly brown.
2. In another pan, saute garlic and onions in oil.
3. Add in ginger and cooked pork.
4. Just stir for about 5 min.
5. Add in the chopped chili peppers and stir until the pork is covered with the mixture.
6. Pour in the coconut cream. Then add the sliced red and green peppers.
7. Continue cooking for about 20 mins or until the sauce thickens.
8. Add some salt if necessary.

Note: Add chilis and peppers according to desired spiciness.

Another note: as you can see I didn't add any bagoong 'cause I'm allergic to that. You can add bagoong if you want too. :)

BurWich

>> Thursday, May 22

I was craving for a burger moments ago, so I though of making one of my own. I rummage our fridge for some ingredients and found some ground meat, cheese, and a few slices of bread. Yey! I can definitely make one pseudo-burger now! :) I just added some flour, salt and pepper to the ground meat, fried it, toasted the bread, added some ketchup and mayo... and VOILA! A burwich (burger-sandwich). It would have been great if I had some lettuce and tomatoes, though. But I forgot to buy groceries yesterday 'cause I was "busy" looking for some jeans and shirts. hehhe

So much for watching my diet... oh well...

wanna bag of nips

>> Wednesday, May 23

This song just came into my head.. i donnu y... hehhe

Wanna see what happens in a bag of Nips?
What goes on before they touch my lips?
They make a rainbow... (Chololate Nips)
A choco rainbow... (Chocolate Nips)
And then they color all the flowers and they paint the trees
So sweet and delicious look at all those bees
When I want fun I get a bag of Nips and make a rainbow!
Nips... Nips!
